Ironically as a style blogger, I’m a bit new to the hair coloring game. I’ve always kept my hair its natural color until last year when I dipped my feet into balayage coloring. Last month, I had the chance to visit the darling Stem Salon in Walnut Creek, California and went for a little more natural, low-maitenance balayage color and couldn’t be more thrilled with how it turned out!

I’m not the best at staying on top of my hair color, I just love it to look natural and healthy. So when I met my stylist, Jess, I showed her a few inspiration pics from my Pinterest and told her I wanted ‘low-maintenance balayage’ since I don’t have the time to fly back to California every few months for a touch-up. Let me just tell you, my stylist hit the nail on the head with my request, because the color turned out absolutely perfect.

In the low-maitenance regard, we also decided to start the color a bit lower than the root line. Thus, when it starts to grow out, it still looks natural. We opted to cut about 1.5–2 inches off the length to get the ends back to their healthy state and kept the long layers going. The Kerastase and Shu Uemura products keep the salon smelling SO good, too.

Jess added a little light product, blew out my hair with her fingertips then ran a curling iron through for natural beach waves.

What do you normally wear to the hair salon? I like to keep up my appearances but also be comfortable. It was a chilly morning in Northern California, so I wore this darling sequin sweater for the day. Plus, usually you change into a smock for hair coloring at the salon.

I received a second pair of my favorite flats from my hubby for Christmas and people stop me all the time to compliment them, the subtle metallic goes with everything! Yes, they’re definitely an investment, but my initial pair has held up for over 3 years and is just as comfortable as the first day I purchased them.
