D.C. blogger Alicia Tenise styles the Suno Floral Dress from Rent the Runway

Ok guys: I’m sorry. I totally meant to get this recap up earlier, and well, life has been crazy insane since Fashion Week. I won’t get into specifics, but hey: I’m here now. Let’s get this started.’

I ask some of you on Twitter how you’d like to see your NYFW coverage. It was mostly split between people wanting to see the overall trends I spotted during the week, and a day-by-day diary. Your wish is my command: I am doing both, guys. Now I present Days 1 and 2 of my NYFW experience!

Day 1

8:30am: Julien and I got into NYC late Thursday night, so that we would have the entire day on Friday to roam around the city. We woke up at Sofitel, decided to order some delicious room service, and enjoyed our calmest day of Fashion Week.

12:00pm: We head over to Shoshanna’s office for a showroom visit. We got to browse some gorgeous pieces from their SS17 collection, and boy oh boy, I am obsessed with all of the gorgeous lace we saw! It was a super feminine collection that was 100% up my alley.

2:00pm: Julien and I headed downtown to start a fun Snapchat takeover for one of our favorite brands, Rent the Runway! We’ve partnered with them many times before, and it was great to finally meet the people we’ve worked with in person and see their New York Style Studio. We picked out some amazing pieces for the rest of fashion week to wear as well.

4:00pm: We head over to the Tresemme Hair Lounge to get our hair did for the presentation and party we have that night. Tresemme really knocked it out of the park with this romantic half updo, and managed to curl my stubborn hair!

7:00pm: After heading back to the hotel and changing for the night, we hop a cab to the Katie Gallagher presentation. I don’t have any photos of it and I’m not going to lie it wasn’t really my aesthetic, but it was edgy, daring, and perfect for the fashionista who loves all black everything.

9:00pm: We head over to the LuLu’s party and pick up some seriously amazing pieces — I picked up a burgandy romper, but now I need to see if it works with my new red hair!

Day 2

10:00am: I headed down to the Meatpacking District bright and early for the Dan Liu show. I loved how colorful it was and his fun use of print. Plus, a lot of his dresses were in this adorable, swingy silhouette which was incredibly flattering!

12:00pm: After a quick brunch, we head over to the ShopStyle lounge where I got to hang out with some of my non-DC bloggers that live across the country. I picked up my very first Gigi New York handbag, got to pull a few great pieces and mingle with other brands.

3:30pm: We head over to the Banana Republic Presentation, but right before going in I run into my favorite Snapchatter of all time, Jacey of Damsel of Dior. I totally asked her to do a Snap with me and she was the absolute sweetest! I continued to be startstuck throughout the Banana presentation after seeing Olivia Palmero in the flesh. Spoiler alert: she looks way more flawless in person and I’m not sure how that’s even possible. ANYWAY.

Banana’s presentation was notable because you could actually buy the things you saw at the presentation right after it was over. They collaborated with Olivia Palmero for a new line that was super feminine and chic, and included a ton of ruffles, off the shoulder pieces and bold punches of color. That orange jumpsuit? You guys know that has my name on it!

After the shows this day I was particularly dead (and crazy hot!), so I just headed back, grabbed a delicious quick dinner with Lacey and Ashley, and called it a night!

Overall Trends

Guys: off the shoulder is not going to die any time soon for SS17, which is fantastic to know because I went a little overboard this season snatching up that silhouette. Ruffles were also very major for Spring 2017, and I spotted a lot of pieces that were both printed and ruffled this season, and I’m a fan of the added drama. One trend that I spotted more on the street than the runways was chokers. Chokers were everywhere, from black, thin velvet chokers to dramatic, statement chokers. Not gonna lie, I picked up several during my trip!
