As most of you know, I went on a super fun trip to Arizona a couple of weeks ago. I got to explore both Phoenix and Mesa, Arizona, which is a city that’s right outside of the Phoenix city limits. We visited a lot of really amazing places and ate all of the amazing food, and since there was no way I could break down my experience in one post, I’ll start off with where we visited on our first full day in town!
Wind Cave Trail
We kicked off our first full day in Mesa, Arizona by hiking up the Wind Cave Trail. It’s a great hike for beginners (like myself!) and was the perfect introduction to the desert for this east coast gal! Wind Cave Trail is located within the Ursery Regional Mountain Park, and it takes about an hour to hike to the top of the summit.
Brunch at Queen Creek Olive Mill
After we worked up quite the appetite with our hike, we headed over to Queen Creek Olive Mill for an adorable brunch. It’s just east of Mesa in Queen Creek, Arizona, and it’s Arizona’s only famukly owned and operated working olive oil and farm. All of the dishes we tried during brunch incorporated their famous olive oils in each recipe, and they were so delicious! I would highly recommend their avocado toast and their waffle selections. They also offer tours of the olive oil farm as well.
Peach Picking & Glamping Tour at Schnepf Farms
If I were to get married in Arizona, I would definitely choose Schnepf Farms! It really is a fantastic venue with plenty to do — they host an annual peach festival which is super popular (but you can pick peaches outside of the festival!), they have an amazing glamping section, and they have three spaces on the farm to host special events. It was one of the cutest little farms I saw in Arizona, and I was surprised at how much they’re able to grow on their farm!
Tour of Agritopia
Agritopia was one of the favorite spots we went to one day! It’s a community farm and has been lauded by the New York Times as the leading “agri-hood” in the United States. Their restaurant that’s on-site, Joe’s Farm Grill, was featured in Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and trust me — that’s well worth the visit as well! In addition to the food, there’s a winery on site, and we were able to take a “make your own succulents” class as well. You could seriously spend an entire afternoon at Agritopia, and I would highly recommend not rushing through this fun space!
Patio dining at Postino East Wine Cafe
Phew. I was pretty exhausted by the end of Day 1, but I knew I wanted to check out Postino Wine Cafe! I was still pretty full from our late lunch at Agritopia, so I decided to enjoy some wine and share some small plates with the group. It’s located in Downtown Mesa, which is a super hip part of town, and my favorite spot I saw as a millennial. It’s really a great place to kick off the evening, and you can walk to other amazing bars and restaurants in the area. I highly recommend the bruschetta and the paninis here!
